Transport and Road Safety Department

The State Government is committed to providing clean, accountable, transparent, and sensitive administration. The Transport and Road Safety Department is directly connected to the common man, handling motor vehicle registration, fitness, taxation and collection, vehicular pollution control, driver's licenses, vehicle permits, transportation, and road safety. To make the department's functioning more dynamic and quick, every transport office will be computerized, and the driver's license and vehicle registration network will be linked to transport offices across the country.

Although the Transport and Road Safety Department is a major revenue-generating department, it is serious and sensitive to the increasing number of road accidents and the resulting irreparable loss of life. Working in the field of road safety poses a daunting challenge. For effective accident prevention and efficient traffic management, the department will strive to streamline the transportation system and reduce road accidents by providing interceptors equipped with modern equipment and deploying highway flying squads. For road safety, there has always been a need for joint efforts by all relevant departments, including Public Works, Medical and Health, Police, and the National Highway Authority. In the first phase, the Transport and Road Safety Department has formed five Highway Flying Squads and deployed them on highways to reduce road accidents and enforce traffic rules. Public awareness of traffic rules is crucial. The department has taken positive steps to educate the public about traffic rules by establishing Road Safety Vigilance Committees at the district, subdivision, tehsil, and village panchayat levels. Public participation will be ensured by designating residents of villages and towns along major roads as "Road Friends." A comprehensive campaign is planned in all districts of the state to install reflectors on all bullock carts, camel carts, and tractor trolleys. The department has issued a Citizen's Charter, setting deadlines for the work to be completed. The Transport and Road Safety Department is constantly striving to ensure that work is completed within the timeframe specified in the Citizens' Charter and to provide convenient services to the general public. The Transport and Road Safety Department also appeals to the public to provide full and active cooperation in maintaining a smooth, uninterrupted, and accident-free transportation system by following traffic rules.
